About Us

We reduce a complicated situation to the decisions that actually have to be made.

Simplest Entropy Pty Ltd is an independent management consultancy. We work with owners and management teams who are moving into unfamiliar territory: a new market, a new supply chain, a new regulatory environment, or a business that has outgrown the way it has always been run.

Positioning

The name is the method.

Entropy is a measure of disorder. Most of the problems we are brought in on are not shortages of effort or intelligence. They are shortages of order: information held in different formats by different people, requirements that nobody has separated into legal, technical and commercial, and decisions made on the strength of whoever spoke last. The work is to reduce that disorder to the smallest set of questions that still decides the outcome.

We are a small firm and we work that way deliberately. The person who scopes an engagement is the person who does the work and the person who presents it. Clients get direct access to the people holding the detail, and we take on work only where we can carry it to a conclusion.

We operate in the corridor between Australia and Asia, and much of our practical experience comes from operating in it ourselves rather than only advising on it. We have sourced from factories, argued about tolerances, held shipments and absorbed the cost of getting a specification wrong. That experience is why our advice tends to be specific.

How We Work

Principles we apply to every engagement.

Evidence before opinion

An observation without a source is a working conclusion requiring validation, and we label it that way. Where an underlying document was not available to us, the report says so rather than filling the gap with confidence.

Separate the law, the standard and the contract

What is imposed by legislation is not negotiable. What a published standard specifies is mandatory only where legislation or a contract calls it up. What we recommend is neither, and should never be presented to a counterparty as if it were.

Narrow the test before spending the money

The first commercial decision is almost always narrower than the one the client arrived with. One buyer, one use case, one controlled test, then a dated decision on whether to continue.

Write it down so it survives us

Advice that only exists in a conversation disappears when someone leaves. Our output is structured so a new person can pick it up and know what was decided, on what basis, and what is still open.

Say when the answer is no

We will recommend removing a commercially attractive option from a plan when the evidence behind it cannot be made reliable, and we will say when a client does not need a consultant at all.

Engagement Flow

What working with us looks like.

01Scoping Conversation

Free, and usually short. We establish what decision is actually in question, what you already have, and whether we are the right people. If we are not, we say so.

02Written Brief

Scope, questions to be answered, what we need from you, what is explicitly excluded, timing and fee. Nothing starts on a verbal understanding.

03The Work

Research, interviews, supplier contact, modelling and drafting, run in a shared workspace with an open-item log you can see rather than a silence until delivery.

04Handover and Review

Delivery of the report and working files, a session with your team, and a currency note listing what should be re-verified before the material is used again.

Where We Work

Sectors and situations we know well.

01

Building and Construction Products

Structural and appearance timber, panels and engineered wood, stone and surfaces, joinery, bathroom ware, hardware and fit-out categories.

02

Import, Export and Trade

Border conditions, product evidence, tariff and origin questions, freight structures, and the difference between clearing a shipment and being fit for the intended use.

03

Manufacturing and Sourcing

Factory selection and qualification across Asia, capability assessment, specification control, and the handover from a sample to a repeatable production run.

04

Wholesale, Distribution and Retail

Channel structure, merchant and distributor expectations, stock decisions, service promises, claims handling and the economics of holding local inventory.

05

Owner-Managed Businesses

Companies where the founder is still the system. Structure, decision rights, delegation and reporting, introduced without breaking what already works.

06

Cross-Border Operations

Teams working across languages, time zones and legal systems, where the failure point is usually a document that meant different things at each end.

Independence

Who we are working for is always the client in front of us.

Disclosed interests

Alongside the consulting practice we operate our own products. Where an engagement touches a category we also trade in, we disclose it before the work begins, and the client decides how to proceed.

No undisclosed commissions

We are not paid by suppliers, distributors, logistics providers or certification bodies to recommend them. Any organisation named in a report is a comparison point, not an endorsement.

Confidentiality by default

Client identity, documents and commercial terms are treated as confidential. Nothing appears in our published material without written permission, and our case studies carry no names.

Next Step

Start with the problem, not the proposal.

Send us the situation in a paragraph. We will come back with what we think the real question is, whether it is worth paying to answer, and what it would take. That exchange is free and carries no obligation.
